They’re back!

Listless

I’d been so animated for days then ZAP! It happened again.  You know, that feeling of “I’d like to but I can’t”.  What caused such a sudden change is somewhat of a mystery although I do have a suspicion—it’s them again.  Those creatures from beyond the beyond are back for me.

Dealing with myself is hard enough sometimes but dealing with them as well as left me feeling listless.

Estrangement

Today I Am A Bunny

Sometimes we feel lonely even if we are surrounded by people.  Because, for one reason or another, we can’t seem to interrelate with others.  We can even feel fragile and encircled by wolves.

So ask yourself the next time you feel hostility from people around you:  are they really wolves or just sheep in disguise?

E-books and cats

E-Book Reading

Volver, our cat, likes attention and often interrupts whatever I’m doing when he has a Tactile Attack forcing me to take a Kitty Break.  Sometimes I try to ignore him (not easy) especially when I’m reading.

Of course, we all know reading is good for us.  It helps us learn and keeps our mind exercised.  And getting emotionally involved with the characters in a novel helps us activate our mirror neurons which is important. Because, in a society that stresses the value of individuality, empathic feelings are declining.

Last year for my birthday, Mr. Wolf gave me an e-reader and I use it all the time.  It’s easy to use when travelling, facilitates reading articles from internet and provides immediate access to other books.  However, e-readers do have some negatives characteristics.  For one, as with all electronic devices, they interfere with sleep since the light they emit limits the production of melatonin and thus are not appropriate for bedtime reading.  Secondly, their anonymous and sterile aspect prevents the possibility of “living in a book” provided by traditional books. The physical experience of turning pages, touching paper, and leafing back and forth are all elements that enhance the sensation of contact with that which is being read.

However, one thing must be said—e-readers are easier to hold than “real” books which is important if you have a cat!

Trashtastic Thursday with Cynthia Korzekwa

Leila Darabi interviews ART FOR HOUSEWIVES! Only 6 years ago!

Leila - Team 3's avatareverydaytrash

For the latest installment of our periodic Tuesday (and sometimes Thursday) series of trash talks, I caught up with artist, activist and garblogger Cynthia Korzekwaof Art for Housewives—one of the first sites to blogroll everydaytrash back in the day.  And a constant source of inspiration since.

everydaytrash: What is bricolage?

Cynthia Korzekwa: Bricolage is taking something old and, via context, making it new. It comes from the French verb bricoler meaning “fiddle, tinker.” A person who engages in bricolage is a bricoleur. And a bricoleur has the capacity to take available materials and, using hands and imagination, give them a new identity.

The French anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss used the word bricolage to explain a means of acquiring knowledge and, in particular, mythical thought. Because mythology dabbles with existing knowledge to create new meaning.

However, my interest for the term came from reading the biologist, François Jacob, and his…

Aloe on Paros

Aloe Vera Flower

I love aloe and have a lot growing at our home on Paros.  When we arrived  this spring, many of the plants had flowered.  Incredibly beautiful.

The aloe vera (as opposed to the maculata in the foto) is one of the most important plants around as its uses are multiple (I’ve already posted about it here). It can be used as a beauty cream, shampoo, toothpaste, ointment for burns, cure for problems of digestion and much much more.
