It all started one winter morning. I was having coffee with my friend Ute at Marani. We were talking about how age was affecting our bodies and the need for exercise. Ute said she’d started a course in yoga. I said that I preferred walking but Ute said she didn’t like walking unless she had a destination.
Destination…that was the word that stuck in my mind. So I decided to give myself a destination. Not far from my studio is the Verano Monumental Cemetery. I’d only seen it from the outside but that day I went in…it was a magical experience and for months I continued to go there. Not only did I spend hours walking there, I began researching the decorative arts of the cemetery as well as some of its permanent guests.
