Last year I wrote a post, Learning how to surf the waves of time, about the difference in the way singers interpreted songs in their youth as opposed to how they did so in their more mature years. I would like to add Simon and Garfunkel’s Sounds of Silence.

Hace unos años estuvimos en México presentando la exposición Me gustas mucho tú y de paso por el DF tuvimos la suerte de conocer a Giovanni Tronconi, artista y editor experto en la cultural visual mexicana (no por casualidad es el autor de esta bobadita). Giovanni nos recibió en su apartamento y entre las muchas maravillas que nos enseñó estaban los exvotos, unas pequeñas pinturas que sea hacen para agradecer a Dios o a la Virgen por algún favor recibido. Giovanni nos habló especialmente de un pintor de exvotos local llamado Alfredo Vilchis.

I posted earlier in the week about the Festival of Quilts at the NEC. I had walked all the way round several times, I thought, but almost at the end of my visit I came to a white cube gallery that I had missed, Mandy Patullo. Before getting onto her work, I thought it would be worth explaining what a white cube gallery is, as one of my blogging friends asked me after the NEC post. The white cubes are my descriptions of temporary structures, painted white and with decent lighting, which are dedicated to invited artists. Sometimes it’s a group or it can be a well-known or particularly interesting lesser-known textile artist. Mandy Pattullo is a British textile artist who’s work is delightfully yummy! Her blog, Thread and Thrift, features her art.
Above are examples of her sample books. A few years ago she bagan cutting up domestic hand embroidery and sewed them into books. Often, the back of the work is shown as the front to highlight the element of stitching.
